What It Takes

Recently, a young lady asked me exactly "what it takes" to get in shape. That got me to thinking perhaps some of you out there are hesitant to even try because you think you may not have "what it takes" to stick to an aggressive workout program. Well, I am here to tell you....you DO have it!

Look, unless you are like my friend to the left here and about to fight Apollo Creed for the title, then you won't be getting up at 4am to chug down raw eggs, then go run in 20 degree weather, followed by a punching session in a meat locker. There are different levels of "what it takes" depending on what your goals are. The key is not to be completely scared away if your level of motivation and intensity isn't as high as Rocky's.

I have seen many people think the uphill road to fitness is too steep and long that they give up before they even start, or very shortly after beginning. I encourage you not to do this. If you are just starting out, I want you to think "baby steps". Do what you can. It will eventually become a routine. Always remember...something is better than nothing! If you don't think you can hit the gym 5 days a week, for a full hour each time, then don't. Go 3 days, for 45 minutes, or whatever you can do. I guarantee two things: 1. You will get SOME results from doing something 2. You will get NO results from doing nothing. Something is better than nothing!
